2 products that commonly have defects

On Behalf of | Oct 8, 2024 | Defective Products

When you buy a product, you enter into a contract with the seller. The item sold should be as advertised. It should also not contain any defects, particularly in terms of safety defects.

Generally, products carry out the intended function without issues. Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case, and some products are sold with defects. Defective products have the potential to cause serious injuries.

Here are two products that can cause serious injuries when they are defective.

1. Vehicle airbags

Modern vehicles are fitted with airbags. These products inflate upon impact. The idea behind airbags is that they cushion the force of the impact and protect the head and upper body from severe injuries. When functioning properly, airbags can certainly help to negate injuries. However, it’s not uncommon for airbags to have faults.

One of the more common airbag defects is failure to deploy. This means that despite a crash occurring, the airbags have not deployed and protected the driver as they should have. Other airbag defects include:

  • Corroded materials
  • Improper size
  • Poor design
  • Defective sensors

Not only can a defective airbag fail to prevent injuries, but it can actually increase the chances of serious injuries occurring.

2. Food products

While there are rigorous laws that ensure food safety, some food products slip through the net. In fact, defective food products helped to establish the legal principle of negligence.

Some of the more common food product defects include:

  • Choking hazards in containers
  • Chemical contamination
  • Failure to label ingredients
  • Failure to provide allergy advice

Not only can food product defects cause injuries and illness, but they have the potential to be fatal.
